Comfortable Indifference

With a name that most closely matches in my native tongue
that of a plant that flourishes in the desert,

(or a small potato-like plant in Mexico,
but that doesn’t work with my metaphor)

you received my affections better than any.

Except maybe the troublesome weeds, unwanted
even in this desert.

Your distance when you’re so close disarms,
or maybe removes the need to disarm.

It feels like my defects—defenses—will prove
no offense to you.

But maybe I’m not afraid of hurting you
because I’m not detecting your investment
made in foreign currency.
